Sound Off for Climate Action Day – Wednesday, April 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hartford, CT

It’s grind time! We are one month away from the end of the 2024 legislative session, and General Assembly has heard our issues relating to climate accountability and the need for increased investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. Still, we need people power to push these priority bills past the finish line! At this event, we will hold a press conference on the status of our priority bills, conduct a legislative training session, and break off into groups to meet with legislators. Register here.

Rock to Rock Day of Environmental Service – Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – New Haven, CT

Are you looking for a way to make a tangible difference for Earth Month? Rock to Rock partner organizations will be hosting volunteers for a Day of Environmental Service on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Choose from eight sites in the New Haven area! EyeRecycle Pop-Up Hosted by JUNTA – Saturday, April 13, from 12 to 3 p.m. – New Haven, CT

Scoop Ice Cream for a Cause on Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day – Tuesday, April 16 – New Haven, CT

We need volunteers to scoop ice cream! Every year Ben & Jerry’s celebrates Free Cone Day in April, where customers get complimentary ice cream. However, it’s not just about enjoying sweet treats; it’s also a day dedicated to activism and community engagement. Save the Sound will be partnering with their New Haven shop for a fun day of scooping ice cream and raising money to protect and preserve the Long Island Sound region. Learn more here.

Hold Down the Ropes for Climate Action – Hartford, CT

The CT Coalition for Climate Action is comprised of environmental advocates, health experts, labor and municipal representatives who are vigorously advocating for updates to our state’s climate law, the Global Warming Solutions Act, and for increased investment in energy efficiency and renewable, clean energy programs. “Holding the ropes” means standing behind the designated rope areas at the State Capitol and asking legislators whom are exiting or entering the Senate or House chambers to support your cause. Throughout the 2024 legislative session, we welcome activists to “hold the ropes” with us at the State Capitol whilst lawmakers are in their respective sessions. Learn more and sign up here.

Earth Day Coastal Cleanup – Sunday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – New Haven, CT & Rye, NY

Join Save the Sound for our first Earth Day Coastal Cleanups! Beach cleanups are a fun way to engage in your community and leave the coast better than you found it. Help protect the environment by removing trash from our coastline. In addition to cleaning the beach, Save the Sound can use the data you collect to influence laws that reduce pollution at the source! Sign up for a cleanup below.

World Fish Migration Day: The Migration Celebration – Tuesday, May 21, from 3 to 7:30 p.m. – Windsor, CT

Join The Nature Conservancy and other members of the Long Island Sound River Restoration Network (RRN) to celebrate World Fish Migration Day, a day dedicated to migratory fish and their role in our ecosystems. The afternoon will include a river walk, a social and networking free flow period, the premiere screening of “Reconnected: Restoring the Rivers of Long Island Sound,” and a panel discussion with the experts and advocates. You may register for each activity separately.

The Long Island Sound River Restoration Network (RRN) is a group of environmental conservation organizations working to restore stream connectivity across Connecticut and New York including The Nature Conservancy, Save the Sound, Housatonic Valley Association, Farmington River Watershed Association, Trout Unlimited, Connecticut River Conservancy, American Rivers and Seatuck Environmental Association.

This is event is made possible with support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Lower Farmington and Salmon Wild & Scenic, and Northwest Park.

Rock to Rock Earth Day Ride & Green Fair – Saturday, April 27 – New Haven, CT

Celebrate Earth Day, cycle or hike with the New Haven community, fundraise for environmental organizations, and enjoy food, music, and more at the Green Fair (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.) on Saturday, April 27. Hamden Earth Day Celebration – Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Hamden, CT

The Town of Hamden will be hosting their Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 27, at Town Center Park. Stop by for educational and interactive Earth Day themed events, exhibitors, and plenty of fun. Visit our booth and say hi to members of our ecological restoration team. Be sure to ask questions about the nearby rain garden, which was constructed with lots of help from the community, through volunteer planting events in June and October of last year.

Reconnecting Rivers: Dana Dam Removal Celebration Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Wilton, CT

Join us at Merwin Meadows Park on Saturday, May 4, to commemorate a significant milestone in ecological restoration! Save the Sound, Trout Unlimited, and the Town of Wilton invite you to celebrate the removal of Dana Dam, marking the restoration and reconnection of over 10 miles of river habitat. Please RSVP here.
