Water Quality Volunteer Open House

We’ll be hosting an Open House at our Larchmont office for any community members curious about volunteering for our bacteria monitoring program this summer. Save the Sound staff will be available to discuss the program, answer questions, and conduct a sampling demonstration.
2026 International Plastic Pellet Count

Orchard Beach, The Bronx, NY
Join Save the Sound for the International Plastic Pellet Count, kicking off our month-long Nurdle Count. Nurdles are tiny plastic spheres, a couple of millimeters in size, that serve as the raw material for the manufacturing of everyday plastic products. We’re organizing Nurdle Count outings at several locations along the western Sound, working to fill a geographic gap in the data being collected. Volunteer to help us count (and remove) the nurdles we find at multiple stations at our weekly locations.

This 36-hour, online giving event is your chance to support Save the Sound and the work we do every day to protect and restore Long Island Sound, improve water quality, and build healthier, more resilient communities across our region. Save the Sound’s Beach Grades: A Deep Dive

Every year, Save the Sound issues data-driven grades for water quality at 200+ public and private beaches around Long Island Sound. Join Peter Linderoth, our director of healthy waters and lands, for a deep dive into the latest Beach Grades, based on data collected during the 2025 swimming season. Learn how wet weather, stormwater runoff, and other factors affect water quality at individual beaches, and how to leverage the Beach Grades to improve water quality at your favorite local beach.
Paddle for the Sound

The 11th annual Paddle for the Sound invites you to take to the water on your own terms. Over a 10-day period, paddle a kayak, SUP, or canoe wherever you are, whenever it works for you, and turn your time on the water into something bigger. This friendly challenge turns time on the water into real impact, raising funds to protect clean water and ensure everyone in our region has the opportunity to experience and enjoy this incredible estuary.
