Karina joined Save the Sound in June 2019 as Member Communications Specialist after interning with the organization for two years. She will focus on ensuring that all of our members are kept up to date with our efforts. During her time as an intern she worked primarily on Plum Island issues, becoming a Millennium Oceans Prize Top Five Finalist for a campaign she developed for its conservation and completing her honors thesis on the potential sustainable development of the island.

She graduated cum laude from the University of New Haven in May 2019 with a B.S. in Marine Biology, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper and President of the Model United Nations Team. She has previously held internships with U.S. Senator Cory Booker and as a university research assistant, analyzing social data on fisheries in Puerto Rico. When she is not in the office she enjoys writing, creating art out of algae from Long Island Sound, and traveling to new places.
