Katie Friedman directs the Henry L. and Grace Doherty Climate and Resilience Institute at Save the Sound, a place-based climate change hub that uses data and metrics to educate the public, mobilize stakeholders, and deploy the nature-based solutions necessary to cut climate pollution, protect our habitats, and stabilize our shorelines.
Previously, Katie managed Save the Sound’s New York Ecological Restoration programs, including river restoration, living shorelines, and green infrastructure projects in Westchester County and New York City and on Long Island.
Her background is in urban watershed restoration and planning, wetlands protection, and water quality monitoring. Katie holds an M.S. in Biology from Clark University where she studied the effects of anthropogenic nutrient loading on New England salt marshes. She has worked on watershed and wetland management efforts for the Charles River Watershed Association, City of Boston, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Program. Before joining Save the Sound, she was the Aquatic Ecologist for NYC Parks, where she developed a watershed management plan for the Harlem River and managed diadromous fish restoration efforts on the Bronx River.
