Kathy Czepiel

Connecticut Land Protection Manager

kczepiel@savethesound.org

Kathy manages Save the Sound’s endangered lands projects in Connecticut, including the movement to create a 102-acre public park on the Six Lakes property in Hamden; the drive to save 236 acres in the Oswegatchie Hills on the Niantic River from development; and the conservation of open space land owned by water companies in Connecticut. Her work also involves developing land conservation and land use policy and educating others about the importance of protecting Long Island Sound’s watershed, which covers almost every acre of Connecticut as well as portions of New York State and the entire Connecticut River Valley, reaching all the way to Canada. Kathy serves on the Land Subcommittee of the Connecticut Equity and Environmental Justice Advisory Council (CEEJAC) and the Watershed Land Protection Work Group of Connecticut’s Water Planning Council Advisory Group.

Before coming to Save the Sound, Kathy worked as a journalist, public relations professional, and longtime high school and college educator. Her concern for the environment has its roots in New York State’s Hudson River Valley, where she was born and raised. She and her family have lived in Connecticut since 2002 and, more than two decades later, keep finding new places here to hike, bike, paddle, and explore.
