Matt Gentry joined Save the Sound as the Ecological Restoration Assistant Project Manager in October of 2025. In this role, he will be assisting in the design and implementation of restoration projects throughout the region.

Prior to joining Save the Sound, Matt worked in various roles for 6 years at the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, where he coordinated and managed field, laboratory, and hatchery studies related to water quality and bivalve shellfish restoration and gained extensive experience in the installation and monitoring of living shorelines.

Matt grew up in Southeastern Connecticut before moving to Philadelphia for college, where he completed a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Science from Drexel University. His thesis research explored physiological plasticity and feeding ecology in freshwater mussels, which he hopes will help inform restoration efforts for that imperiled group of organisms.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys gardening, cooking, backpacking, and trail running, and is currently working towards summitting all the mountains above 4,000’ in the Northeast. After 13 years outside of Connecticut, he is excited to be back and contribute to important projects in his home state!
