Javier A. Román-Nieves is a Puerto Rican artist, writer and naturalist who joined our Ecological Restoration team in March 2021. He obtained a first master’s degree in architecture from the University of Puerto Rico, and a second one in environmental management from the Yale School of the Environment in 2019.

Javier combines skills from human ecology, ecosystem conservation and mapping into a practice located somewhere between land management and environmental communications. He thrives at the intersection and complexities between humans and nature, finding himself at home among Save the Sound’s dam removals and green infrastructure projects. He still likes to photograph birds and stars, and nourishes a penchant for editorial design through his own independent publishing label.
