Larchmont, NY — Save the Sound submitted written testimony to the Environmental Protection Agency on Monday, sharing its significant concerns over the EPA’s plan to rescind the Endangerment Finding—a lynchpin in the federal government’s ability to limit greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act. The EPA is also proposing to repeal emissions standards for motor vehicles, after previously going after power plant standards.
“Rescinding the Endangerment Finding could essentially invalidate all existing regulations that restrict greenhouse gas emissions, leaving Americans unprotected,” said Charles Rothenberger, Save the Sound’s in-house climate and energy attorney and director of Connecticut government relations. “The scientific consensus is clear: greenhouse gases are responsible for accelerating climate trends and the extreme weather resulting from a warming planet. Deregulating GHG emissions would increase this threat to public health and welfare, and it would come at a devastating economic cost. We strongly urge EPA to uphold existing GHG standards, which are supported by science, and abandon its plan to rescind the Endangerment Finding.”
